Under Control, Women Shelter
The Shelter provides a safe place for women who have experienced sexual abuse and do not have a secure place to stay. They offer Empowerment Self-Defense classes taught by trauma treatment professionals to teach women how to defend themselves against common attacks. The classes aim to build a fighting spirit and help women respond both mentally and physically in a time of need, so they are not frozen or shut down in confrontation. The shelter also provides sharing circles and a program to help women gain more confidence and control over their bodies.
